Society was introduced to a missing little girl, Caylee Marie Anthony On July 15, 2008. She was a 2-year-old who lived with her with her mother, Casey Marie Anthony, and her maternal grandparents, George and Cindy Anthony. Cindy made a horrific phone call to 911 saying that she had not seen Caylee for 31 days and that Casey's car smelled like a dead body had been inside it. Cindy said Casey had given varied explanations as to Caylee's whereabouts before finally telling her that she had not seen Caylee for weeks. Several suspicious questions were raised in society when Casey tried to collect many falsehoods, excuses, and reasons for why her daughter went missing. For one, Casey told detectives that a nanny had kidnapped the child and that she had been trying to find her. For two, Casey had lied about where she was and what she did for a living. Casey explained to detectives that she was simply too frightened to alert the authorities that her daughter had gone missing.
When news broke out that Caylee had disappeared, pictures of her dancing on stripper poles and drinks in her hands showed that Casey did not have a care in the world. Audiences that were reached and affected were those that desired cultural changes. These individuals and families across the nation were shocked at Casey’s misbehavior when Caylee was supposedly “mssing”.
After a long time of searching for Caylee, a meter reader found a suspicious object near the Anthony residence. Sheriffs went out to see what it might be and in fact found the remains of Caylee Anthony. With more investigating, detectives found Google searches of “neck breaking” and how to make “chloroform”. People may wonder, is this woman crazy to kill her child and thinking she could get away with it (Hayes, 2011) ?
Consider, if she had to lie in the first place to try and cover herself, this may mean she is not insane. Someone who is insane does something with out control. Lying shows that she knows what she did and possibly could of prevented this. Casey had done this in the “right mind” so to speak and is a cold-blooded killer.
After 33 days of testimony, 400 pieces of evidence and more than 90 witnesses, dedicated viewers were on the edge of their seats waiting for the guilty verdict. The jury in the Casey Anthony case had finally reached a verdict Casey Anthony was found not guilty (Lohr, 2011).
In today’s world, it is important to not focus on the “hard evidence” of cases. As this happens, we lose sight of what is in right front of us, a killer. Did the jurors miss what Casey did? Did they over look the moral and ethics behind this case? I believe so. They failed to dig deeper about Casey’s motive behind her lies and her actions while her daughter went missing. They focused on the physical evidence and not so much common sense. With all of the lies and evidence of finding Google searches of “neck breaking” and how to make “chloroform”, usually raises a red flag. However, the jurors seemed to disagree.
What does this say about the justice system? More importantly, where is justice for Caylee? Will we continue to let selfish and self-centered killers free? Today, we still do not know “who” killed this innocent young child. Yet, we do have the satisfaction that Casey has to spend the rest of her life in hiding and fear from those that know the truth—that she is responsible for the murder of her 2-year-old daughter.

When we think of young mothers across the nation, we may think of hard work, tolerance, and effort. If some of us are not in that position, we can only imagine how much work it truly is to be a mother, especially at a young age.
In 2009, the nation could see what it was exactly like living like this. The original show was first called “16 and pregnant” then after their pregnancy, the same girls were broadcasted on “Teen Mom“. Teen mom is a television show about teenage women and their lives as mothers. The target audience is for young women across the nation. This show’s intent is to expose these women that if they do not practice safe sex, their lives can change drastically with friends, parents, and the father’s of their children. How will these audiences perceive this?  Does this really encourage the public to be safer about their intimacy life? Or does this encourage them to act on it?
Since the show has been airing on television, the producers are showing the public this type of lifestyle. If it were not aired, people would continue to live their lives like they are doing. So, why not take the chance and broadcast this? Perhaps, the producers are trying an attempt to let women know that this life is much harder than a regular teenage life. “Producers defended their decision to put a spotlight on the issue and claimed the show would prevent more young girls from getting pregnant if they saw what it was really like to be a teenage mother”(Majeski, 2013). In fact, this did drop teen pregnancy rate in 2009 for the first time in ten years (Majeski, 2013). This shows a positive meaning in society and hopefully will continue to decrease the number of teen pregnancies.
Yet, some teen girls will not always follow the norms of society. Are these young ladies really taking it seriously? Viewers may assume, “that would never happen to me” or “I can’t see myself doing that”. But it can. Now what? Many mothers have a hard time deciding what to do with their child. This show explains how hard life can be if they do keep their child; juggling with being a mother, a student, a daughter, a significant other, etc. is a lot for someone that young to manage. What about adoption? There are some women on the show that choose this option and do think it is better for their child as well as the couple. However, that can come with consequences as well. Either way, I believe this show is trying convince the public that if you make a choice irresponsibly, be prepared for these outcomes.
Some of these teens on the show say that they wish they could go out and do normal teenage things. A baby is a tremendous blessing. Yet, the young couples wish they could of waited a little longer. I believe this show is a huge help for society. It portrays the struggles of being a teen parent and hopefully encourages viewers to be safer or even wait until they are truly ready. Personally, when I watched the show, I thought I would never want to be put in that position because we have our whole lives to be parents. So why not enjoy it later?

Traditionally, we think of a marriage as a life long commitment. However, it was not the case for NBA basketball player, Kris Humphreys and Hollywood star, Kim Kardashian. The media disclosed this news quick when their 72-day marriage came to an end. The first thing I thought was, what had happened for this marriage to end so quickly? As a consistent viewer of Keeping up with the Kardashians, I had high hopes for the famous couple. They seemed to be excited to get married and I know I was shocked when I heard the unfortunate news.
In November 2010, Kim meets Kris while shooting “Kourtney and Kim Take New York”. Soon after, reporters state that they spot Kim holding up an “I love you” sign at one of Kris’s games (Weekly Us, 2013). Kris eventually proposes in May of 2011 and they marry in August of 2011. The timeline of dating and the engagement usually lasts much longer. People, including myself, were stunned to hear that their marriage only lasted 72 days. Kim Kardashain says she "got caught up with the hoopla. … I felt like I was on a fast roller coaster and couldn't get off when now I know I probably should have" (Weekly Us, 2013). Personally, if someone feels like something is wrong, it probably is. Individuals may have a different perspective due to the couple violating the traditional norm but I am a full believer in honesty is the best policy!
As if it cannot get any more confusing for viewers, Kim and Kanye West reveal that Kim is pregnant while still being legally married to Kris Humphreys. There is a good chance people may not even think twice about it because divorce rate is much higher in today’s society. Unfortunately, this marriage adds to the “new norm” and continues to encourage the acceptance of divorce. On the other hand, going back to the traditional role of marriage and family, this definitely goes against these morals. People may not only argue that it is not right to start a family out of wedlock, but also she quickly became pregnant after her and Humphreys split ways. Kim did start to worry because she did not want to be legally married to Kris while having Kanye’s baby. What would the public think of her then? Yet, Kim says, “I firmly believe that an immediate dissolution of our marriage will help create a new, full life for me. One chapter will be officially over, and a new one can begin. The same should hold true for [Humphries]” (Selsby & Powell, 2013).
As an outsider looking in, many questions are raised about famous relationships because some of us may assume that the couples “have it all”, so what could go wrong? Society needs to remind us that whether being in a relationship in the public eye or not, we are all humans and we will naturally make mistakes. Even though this marriage only lasted for 72 days, we never know what we would do until we are in that situation ourselves.
